Medway Valley Fisheries: Brooklands Lake

NOW OPEN
About: Brooklands is a 28 acre, old sand and gravel pit which is ringed by trees and reeds with an average depth of 14 foot. The lake is incredibly rich in natural food as well as the surrounding flora and fauna. This winter has seen the completion of our 3 year stocking programme and pictures of the fish introduced can be seen in the clubhouse at Brooklands or on our website. There are numerous carp in excess of 40lb (the lake record currently stands at 48lb) as well as pike to 38lb, tench to 14lb, bream to 14lb, eels to 8lb+, perch to 4lb, rudd and roach. This lake has 28 swims, all of which give each angler plenty of space and features to fish. Each swim has been carefully placed and constructed to make the most of its location from both a fishing and weather protection perspective. Around almost 3 sides of the lake you can park right beside your rods but at the same time your vehicle is hidden away to ensure that the view is not spoiled for your fellow anglers on the opposite banks. Vehicular access is by way of a gate to which all members are given a key. We are also have the MVF club house which is equipped with all the mod cons that the modern discerning angler has come to expect including a toilet (with disabled access). Membership of Brooklands Lake is strictly limited to 90 places. There is a 4th rod option at an additional cost but this must be used in a neighbourly fashion as there are other anglers to be considered.

RK leisure- Horton Crayfish Pool

NOW OPEN
About: This small, secluded lake on the complex has finally come back into form, producing some fantastic looking fish. The venue has seen a stocking of some 65 carp which include the famous Sutton strain. The Sutton’s were hand picked and are now being caught between 20-30lbs. The Fishers Pond carp that were added to the original stock were a healthy mix of beautifully scaled carp ranging from 15-22lbs. These are now coming out to around 30lb with the biggest going 42lb. The venue still holds some of the originals and it is worthwhile spending a season or two chasing them. The venue is very secluded and the top tip for this lake would be to approach the margins cautiously and keep your eyes peeled, as many fish are caught from within feet of the edge. A possible distraction to the carp fishing comes in the form of some specimen eels that have been caught over the last few years on the venue. To date, the largest specimen was slightly over 8lb, a fantastic fish and one that is available to any angler wanting a slightly different species to the usual carp. 2015 saw another fifteen fish get on the 30Ibs+ list with a top weight of 42Ibs 2oz, taking the tally to well over fifteen 30lbs+ carp to be had in this prestigious but tricky water.

RK leisure- Horton Island

NOW OPEN
About: As one of the better kept secrets in the RK Leisure portfolio, the Island Lake at Horton is over 65 acres and has developed into one of the best boating lakes in the country with a good head of large carp and pike. Now with over 400 fish averaging around the 30lb mark and at least ten 40lb+ pound carp, the largest of which is over 51lbs, this water is growing from strength to strength. Included in this stock are some of the ‘originals’ with a chance of further surprises. Large weed beds dominate this water in the summer months although clear patches can be found. As a result of the rich water conditions, the natural feed is abundant, including thousands of snails and tadpoles, so experiment with your bait until you get a bite! A compound has been erected for anglers to store their boats on site between visits. This reduces the hassle for members of transportation between sessions.

RK leisure- Horton Kingsmead 1

NOW OPEN
About: Kingsmead 1 is quickly becoming one of the premier big fish waters in the country. The lake is home to approximately 200 carp, with at least 60 of these going over 30lb and more than 14 going over 40lb to target from this superb water. These include a number of big commons. K1 is also home to two 50lbs+ mirror carp – ‘Starry’s’ at 54lbs 14oz, this is a complex record at Horton and ‘The Scarred Mirror’ at a weight of 52lbs 3oz. The largest common carp in the lake is ‘The Upfront Common’ who weighs in just over 44lbs. Kingsmead 1 members have full use of all the facilities at Horton including the superb lodge, shower and toilets. The fishing on Kingsmead 1 can be tricky at times, however, extremely rewarding if the angler puts in the time and effort. Regular anglers and bailiffs recommend a stealthy approach and good observation, with many captures coming from casting at showing fish and single hook baits. Both of these will help produce those extra takes. Most people struggle when beginning on this lake but do not give up! Once you get into the swing of how fish react, some very good sessions will be had.

RK leisure- horton church lake

NOW OPEN
About: carp and the history of the lake certainly adds a unique attraction to the venue. The lake holds over 100 carp, 16 over the 40 Ibs mark with at least 31 fish breaking 35 lbs. Also inhabiting the venue are a number of grass carp. The icing on the cake being an individual fish that did hold the British record for the species before it was non-classified, in excess of 52lb. This is one huge-finned torpedo and boy does it put up a fight! The Horton Church Lake is by no means an easy challenge, though the few that get it right can reap the rewards. Some of the famed fish include “Tetley’s Common” which last came out just over the 40lb mark. This fish has disappeared and reappeared with gaps of over two years and more. Then there’s the ever-special Missing Mirror. This is by no means a huge fish but the fact it has only been out twice in 16 years says just how elusive this fish can be. Could this be one of the hardest fish in the country to catch?

Permits to fish are issued annually running from 16th June – 15th June the following season and every year total numbers on the lake are limited to ensure that the complex does not become pressurised.
